Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before and after your order.

🛒 Before You Buy
What exactly is a TeslaFX USB drive?⌄
It's a custom USB drive that we pre-load with your selected Tesla light shows and/or lock sounds. You plug it into your car's front USB-A port and your Tesla recognises it instantly — no app, no downloads, no setup. Everything is ready to use the moment it arrives.
What's the difference between the Starter Pack and a Custom Drive?⌄
Starter Pack ($39) — 25 hand-picked fan-favourite shows, ready to go. Great if you want a curated experience without having to choose.

Custom Tesla FX Kit (from $55) — you hand-pick your own shows from our full library of 178+. Priced by how many you choose: up to 30 shows ($55), up to 60 shows ($75), or all of them ($99). Both options include 3 free lock sounds.
Can I preview shows before I buy?⌄
Yes — every show in our library has a video preview you can watch right in the Build Your Drive configurator before adding it to your order. Lock sound previews are available on the Lock Sounds page as well.
Can I change my selection after ordering?⌄
Contact us as soon as possible — we build drives quickly. If your order hasn't entered production yet, we can update your selection at no charge. Once shipped, changes require a new order.
✓ Tip: double-check your shows and sounds in the builder before checking out — preview is there for exactly this reason.
Can I add more shows later without buying a whole new drive?⌄
If you want different or additional shows, simply place a new order and we'll build you a fresh drive with your updated selection.
âš¡ Compatibility
Which Tesla models are supported?⌄
TeslaFX drives work on:
  • Model S — software v2022.x or later
  • Model 3 — software v2022.x or later
  • Model X — software v2022.x or later
  • Model Y — software v2022.x or later
To check your software version, tap Controls → Software on your touchscreen.
âš  Cybertruck uses a different file structure and is not currently supported. If you have a Cybertruck, contact us before ordering.
My Tesla is on older software — will it still work?⌄
The Light Show feature requires Tesla software v2022.x or later. If you're on an older version, connect to WiFi and install the latest update from Controls → Software → Check for Updates. Updates are free and take about 30–45 minutes. Lock sounds also require v2022.x or later.
Are the light shows the same on all models?⌄
The experience is similar across all supported models — your Tesla's exterior lights sync to the music, which plays through the car's speakers at a volume you set when scheduling the show. Model S and Model X have different exterior light configurations than Model 3 and Model Y, so the specific light sequences may vary slightly, but the music and overall show experience is the same. If a show doesn't perform as expected on your S or X, try another from your library.
Can I use the drive on multiple Teslas?⌄
Yes — you can plug the drive into any compatible Tesla. Just move it between cars as needed. It won't be modified by doing so (as long as you keep it out of the Sentry Mode port — see below).
📦 Orders & Shipping
How long does it take to receive my drive?⌄
We build and ship within 3–5 business days. Standard shipping is then 2–5 days depending on your location. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order ships.
Do you ship internationally?⌄
Currently we ship within the United States. International shipping is something we're looking into — contact us if you're outside the US and we'll see what we can do.
What if my drive arrives and doesn't work?⌄
Contact us with your order number and a description of what's happening. We'll troubleshoot with you and send a replacement drive at no charge if the issue is with the drive itself. We stand behind our work — if something isn't right, we'll make it right.
What if some of my selected shows are missing?⌄
Contact us with your order number. It's possible a file didn't copy correctly during production — it happens very rarely but we take it seriously. We'll send a replacement USB at no charge.
🚗 Using Your Drive
Which USB port do I use?⌄
It depends on your Tesla's year. On most Teslas made after late 2021, the front center console ports are power-only — the glovebox USB-A port is the one that supports data and is where you'll plug in your TeslaFX drive. On older models, the front center console USB-A ports work fine.

Not sure which you have? Try the glovebox first — it works on all supported models.
✓ Tip: The glovebox port can be awkward to reach. Our USB Extender Cable ($4.99) lets you leave the drive plugged in and swap it easily from the front.
How do I run a light show?⌄
  • Park your Tesla (must be in Park the entire time)
  • Insert the USB into the glovebox USB-A port (or front center console port on older models)
  • Wait 10–15 seconds for detection
  • Tap the Tesla 'T' logo → Entertainment → Light Show
  • Select your show and follow the on-screen prompts
✓ Tip: Use the Schedule option to set a show to run at a specific time — perfect for surprising someone or showing off at an event.
I don't see the Light Show option in the menu.⌄
A few things to check: make sure you're in Park, and that your software is v2022.x or later (Controls → Software). On older software the path is Toybox → Schedule Light Show instead of Entertainment → Light Show. If you're on an older version, a software update will enable it.
My light show runs but the music doesn't play.⌄
The light show audio is separate from your car's regular volume control — it's set on the scheduling screen when you start the show. Look for the volume slider on the light show scheduling page and turn it up there. Some shows are visuals-only with no audio track, so if you selected one of those, that's expected.
🔊 Lock Sounds
How do I set up my lock sounds?⌄
  • Insert the USB into the glovebox USB-A port (or front center console on older models)
  • Tap the car icon (bottom left) → Controls → Locks
  • Find Lock/Unlock Sound and tap it
  • Select USB as the sound source — this tells your Tesla to use sounds from the drive
  • Choose your preferred sound from the list
Changes take effect immediately. Test it by locking/unlocking right from the Controls menu.
My Tesla keeps switching between lock sounds randomly.⌄
That's normal and by design — Tesla selects randomly from your installed lock sounds. You may hear the same one several times in a row before it picks another. If you only want one specific sound, just select a single lock sound when ordering (or on the lock sounds page).
My lock sounds aren't showing up in the menu.⌄
Make sure the USB is still inserted — lock sounds only appear when the drive is plugged in. If it's inserted and still not showing, try a soft reboot: hold both scroll wheel buttons until the Tesla logo appears, let it restart, then check again.
Can I have different lock sounds on different drives?⌄
Yes — each drive holds up to 3 sounds. You can order multiple drives with different sounds and swap them out whenever you want a change. That's exactly why we offer additional drives at $12.99 on the lock sounds page.
🛠 Troubleshooting
My Tesla doesn't recognize the USB drive at all.⌄
  • Make sure you're using the glovebox USB-A port (on post-2021 models, front console ports are power-only)
  • Try unplugging and firmly reinserting the drive
  • Try the other USB-A port if there are two
  • If still not detected: hold both scroll wheel buttons to reboot the touchscreen, then reinsert the drive
If none of these work, contact us — we'll send a replacement.
My USB drive stopped working after a while.⌄
USB drives can occasionally fail, especially if removed while Tesla is actively reading from them. Always wait a few seconds after the car's touchscreen stops showing USB activity before removing the drive. If it's failed, contact us with your order number and we'll replace it.
🚗 Smart Summon Arrival Chime (NEW)
What is the Actual Smart Summon Arrival Chime?⌄
A recent Tesla update added the ability to play a custom sound when your car arrives at your location using Smart Summon (also called Actual Smart Summon, or ASS). Your TeslaFX drive can include this chime — just pick any sound from the library during checkout and we'll load it on the drive for free. Tesla's Smart Summon already plays a handful of built-in sounds (think: fart, ta-da, applause) — the custom chime replaces those with something personal. When your Tesla pulls up, it announces itself with whatever sound you choose.
Do I need anything special to use this?⌄
Yes — you need Full Self-Driving (FSD), either as an active subscription or a legacy purchase. The Smart Summon feature is part of FSD. If you don't have FSD, the chime file will still be on your drive and ready to go if you ever subscribe later. Current FSD pricing and subscription options are available directly at tesla.com.
Which sounds can I pick for the arrival chime?⌄
Any sound from our library that is under 1MB — that's 67 of the 71 sounds. All the usual categories are available — Star Wars, gaming, funny, sci-fi, retro, and more.
Is the arrival chime free?⌄
Yes — completely free. It's one additional file we load onto your drive at no extra charge. Just select your sound during checkout on the Build Your Drive page or the Lock Sounds page.
